Personnal Details.

Married to Diane for 38 years and lived all our married life in the Abermule area, most of it at Whym, which actually is my old family home where I was brought up. I went to school at Abermule (started 1955) and then went on to Newtown High School. We have been blessed with two children, Julie is now 32, a teacher and living at in Teddington (London) with husband Neil. Gary, our son, is a Chartered Surveyor, and living with his wife ( also Julie)  and also live in London. We have two delightful grandchildren, Una who is 2 yrs old(born Nov 2008) and Oliver who has just over  6 months ( born Oct 2010).

I am a retired company Director, having retired from my compnay Messrs Thomas Mawer Ltd., in 2002, when we sold our 50% shareholding. I had been a Director for some 15 years and join owner for 8years. Our company supplied raw material for manufacturing of animal feeds, pet food and fertiilizer, on a national basis. The company was based in Hull

I come from a farming background and in fact own a small farm at Whym, along with some woodlands in the area.I have many interests such as sport, theatre, reading, walking, cycling and voluntary community work. Previously I was a soccer referee for 27 years but these days Diane & I are Wolves (Wolverhampton Wanderers) supporters. We  also love playing bowls for Abermule Bowling Club, where I am also Club President. I am also currently League Secretary of the Montgomeryshire Mixed Bowling League.

I stood for election to Powys County Council in January 2004, in a by-election brought about by the resignation of the previous County Councillor. I stood as an Independent Candidate in a three cornered fight with the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives. I was duly elected on 15th January 2004, with 84% share of the vote. I was elected to the Board of Powys County Council in May 2006 taking charge of the Portfolio for Planning & Community Regeneration, then in May 2008 the Portfolio's were re-organised and I then took on the much enlarged Portfolio of Regeneration & Development. As from May 2011, as a result of a change of Governance arrangements, Powys County Council no longer opperates a Board system and it has changed to a Cabinet ( Leader plus 9 Portfolio Holders). In the new Cabinet my Portfolio becomes further enlarged and will be 'Regeneration and Culture'. ( see page on Responsibilities)
